Extra rare 17th C. Carved Cabinet for relics from the Palais des Papes in Avignon, Southern France. Massive wooden cabinet, richly decorated with carvings in the Baroque style. Carved columns with flowers on the right and left. The door consists of three leaves with the Image of Jesus Christ in the center. Image of a dove and angels at the top. Wooden sculptures representing a angels and putto on the front of the cabinet and on the sides. The massive base is decorated with relief floral patterns and images of shells. The cabinet looks like an architectural structure, with dramatic curves of sculptural elements and lush decoration, including classical and Renaissance motifs. An extra rare relic from the Palais des Papes in Avignon, such items very rarely appear on the antique market.
